Player Notes From Across My Wire...

Bears add Chester Taylor to the mix....

It's an interesting signing for Chicago, though it helps the offense some it really does little to help the team's passing game. With the big arm under center adding a running back will do little to upgrade Cutler. Taylor (low-RB3) will be a back up to starter Matt Forte (low-RB1) and will only benefit if the team can curtail Cutler's tendency to force the ball downfield. Expect Taylor to play a very much similar role in Chicago as he did in Minnesota; a third down passing receiving specialist. Even with Martz revamping the play calling, Taylor likely won't see enough action to be a drafted fantasy option other than a hand-cuff to Forte.

Ravens make a deal for Boldin.....

The Ravens took major steps in the right direction by immediately upgrading their passing game with the addition of wide receiver Anquan Boldin (mid-WR2). Q will bring to the team and quarterback Joe Flacco a big playmaking receiver they have sorely missed. With the prior signing of Donte Stallworth (low-WR4), the Ravens passing game (ranked 18th in 2009) could take a huge leap forward in 2010.

Seahawks interested in Brandon Marshall....

Although there is a lot of rumors flying the Broncos seem to be hell-bent on getting a first round pick for Marshall (mid-WR2) and any trade with Seattle could require the Seahawks overall number six pick (in this 2010 draft). Last season the Hawks added then free agent wide receiver TJ Houshmandzadeh (low-WR1). It's odd to think they would bring in another big physical receiver to compliment TJ, but with Marshall being a proven commodity with three straight seasons with over 100 receptions it could be hard to pass up.

T.O. to visit the Bengals....

It appears that Chad Ochocinco (mid-WR2) made enough noise and the Bengals heard, free agent wide receiver Terrell Owens (mid-WR3) is expected to visit the Bengals on Tuesday. After a significant drop in his numbers in 2009, some may question the Bengals interest in Owens; T.O. showed enough last season to prove he's still in great shape, has plenty of speed, and great size. With T.O.'s physical presence on one side (similar to Houshmandzadeh), he would make an ideal compliment for Ochocinco's speed on the other side.

Player Notes From Across My Wire...

Big Ben and Steelers have a new identity...

After watching the Steelers pull out a miracle win over the Packers last Sunday, it's quite evident with their 37 points and over 500 yards in the air the team has a new identity. The Steelers offense is anchored and led by the arm of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. This season he's having his most productive season under center with career numbers in completions (302) and passing yards (3,849). The offense has also been more productive in the air with 24 passing touchdowns to just nine on the ground.

Frank Gore finishing strong....

The Niners are quickly learning the hard way their success comes hand in hand with running back Frank Gore's production. In the team's last six games when Gore has had more than 20 touches the team has won (three times), when he hasn't they have lost. Gore is coming off consecutive 100-yard rushing games. With very winnable games over the next two weeks, expect Gore to see plenty of work against the Lions and Rams.

Finley becoming a difference maker....

The Packers tight end Jermichael Finley is quickly becoming a household name in team's offense, especially in the red zone. Over the past month Finley has really come on strong as a reliable receiver in the Packer's passing attack. In his last three starts Finley has 21 receptions for 223 yards receiving with three touchdowns. He also has 31 receptions over his last five games and his high number of targets (41) over this stretch make him a strong play down the stretch for fantasy owners.

Vernon Davis: The difference a year makes.....

With the Niners eliminated from any chance for the post season, one of the things this team can look back on in 2009 is the resurrection of tight end Vernon Davis. After a dismal and disappointing 2008 campaign, Davis has rebounded to become the player many experts felt he always had the potential to be. With 69 receptions, a shot at 1,000 yards receiving for 2009 and tied for the league lead with 11 receiving touchdowns, Davis has come full circle in the short time of one season.

IDP Notes....

James Anderson making plays in Carolina….

Since the injuries to linebackers Landon Johnson (knee sprain) and Thomas Davis (torn ACL) that ended their 2009 season, replacement James Anderson has been solid in the lineup for the Panthers. In his four starts Anderson has totaled 33 tackles, including 24 solo with one sack. With a Week 16 matchup with the Giants, Anderson is going to getting plenty of opportunity to improve his numbers.

Player Notes From Across My Wire...

Young has elevated his game...

The Titans quarterback Vince Young is still a dangerous runner outside the quarterback, but over the past several weeks he has looked very strong and played very well from inside the pocket (three touchdown passes this past week). In the past month Young has resembled more of a poised pocket passer, than a scrambler. This will be something fantasy owners will be watching as he finishes up the 2009 campaign and something they may want to remember looking toward 2010.

Rivers truly playing like an MVP....

The Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers has really been playing as well as any other quarterback in the league. The team is currently riding a nine game win streak and Rivers 18 touchdowns in that stretch has been a big part. What makes Rivers so good and so dangerous for opposing defenses is his tremendous confidence in his own ability and his superb touch on the deep ball.

Manning still looks like a sure play....

The Colts may appear to have nothing left to play for except pride, but you could not tell Peyton Manning that. On Thursday night he was battling just like it was the AFC championship in Foxboro, minus all the snow. With a perfect 14-0 record, the playoffs just a few short weeks away, you can't tell me the Colts don't want to win and keep winning. Manning (33 passing touchdowns in 2009) has been spectacular all season and sometimes better than that in a single half; he looks like a safe play again for Week 16 (but check his status later in the week).

Schaub on his way to the next level.....

With a strong finish (back-to-back 360-yard passing games) to a very good 2009 campaign, the Texans quarterback Matt Schaub is very much lobbying for fantasy elite consideration. Schaub has not only played well this season with over 4,000 yards and 25 touchdowns, but he has started every game this season for the Texans. With Andre Johnson to throw to, it's going to be hard to see Schaub slip too deep in next season's fantasy drafts.

IDP Notes....

DeMarcus Ware returns in a big way….

After consecutive losses to open the month of December, what the Cowboys needed was inspired play if they had any hopes of upsetting the undefeated Saints. That is exactly what they got from linebacker DeMArcus Ware who was questionable to even play after suffering a neck sprain the previous week. Sprain or not Ware was definitely a pain the Saints neck, in particular quarterback Drew Brees. Ware harrassed Brees all night sacking the pro bowl quarterback twice and forcing two fumbles. Ware now has 11 sacks and five forced fumbles this season.

Player Notes From Across My Wire...

Forsett injured in practice….
With Julius Jones returning to action this is really not good news for fantasy owners. Forsett was starting to look like a fantasy gem and head coach Jim Mora had every intention of staying with the hot hand, but now it looks like Jones will see even more action on Sunday. Owners need to eye the injury reports prior to kick-off with this one.

Brown is the color of the day in Houston….
When the season began in Houston it was supposed to be all about running back Steve Slaton. That was before the 2nd year back developed a case of fumble-itus. With Slaton having issues the Texans have had to rotate their backs into the lineup. Moats had his run earlier this season and now after a 56-yard effort last week it will be Chris Browns turn. With Slaton turning up on this week's injury report and not expected to play, Brown looks like the favorite to start Sunday.

Moreno on the rise in Denver….
There was a reason that head coach chose rookie running back Knowshon Moreno with the 12th overall pick in the 2009 NFL draft. The Broncos have exeperienced quite the up and down season, but one constant has been the running of Moreno who keeps getting better. In his last three games Moreno is averaging nearly 90 yards on the ground. With a suspect Chiefs run defense allowing over 130 yards on the ground up next, Sunday could be a big day for the rookie

Kenny Britt: The Rookie has arrived….
After rattling off five straight wins now, the Titans have suddenly emerged as wild card contenders albeit long shots, but nonetheless. With the team now on the rise, suddenly rookie receiver Kenny Britt has become more than just relevant. In the rookie last outing he caught seven passes for 128 yards, including the game winning touchdown. Britt is seeing more passes in his direction (22 in his last three games) and his production is on the rise; 11 receptions and two scores in his last two starts.

Player Notes From Across My Wire...

Moore to make first since 2007….
With Panther's quarterback Jake Delhomme set to miss Sunday, back up quarterback Matt Moore figures to make his first start since 2007. The Panthers are facing the Buccaneers this week, one of the leagues worst run defense, so fantasy owners should downgrade the passing attack (including Steve Smith) as Carolina will likely stay on the ground with running backs DeAngelo Williams (1,022 yards)and Jonathan Stewart (544 yards).

Big Ben set to make return Sunday….
After sitting out last week as a precaution, the Steelers quarterback resumed practicing this week and looks ready to start. It was noted by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that Roethlisberger said he felt "great" after Wednesday's practice. Expect to see Ben play and play well against the Raiders. Despite the recent rumblings in the press, expect receiver Hines Ward to be a good play this week.

Moreno on the rise in Denver….
The Bronco's rookie has been on the rise as of late. In his last three games he has started in the backfield and averaged 88 yards on the ground. With 688 yards Moreno has a solid shot at 1,000-yards rushing for the season. An important note for fantasy owners, Moreno does not appear on this week's injury list and facing the Chiefs 27th ranked run defense he looks like a solid play.

Player Notes From Across My Wire...

Brandon Jacobs is a go for Thursday….
The Giants running back has not been having quite the season fantasy owners had hoped for, but good news for Thursday night. Jacobs looks like he'll be a go and facing the Broncos he's going to have a great matchup. Jacobs has only rushed for 656 yards this season and three touchdowns, but the Broncos run defense over the past four weeks has been horrid allowing nearly 170-yards per game.

Warner bruised, but not broken….
The Cardinals quarterback suffered a mild concussion on Sunday against the Rams, but it sounds like he'll be a go for Sunday. Warner was knocked out of the game just before the end of the first half, but not before he rang up over 200-yards passing and two scores. This season Warner has passed for over 2,700 yards and 20 touchdowns, but he'll be facing a much improved Titan's defense (four sacks Monday night against Texans).

Cartwright looks fit to start Sunday….
With Clinton Portis already ruled out and Ladell Betts being injured on Sunday against the Cowboys, Cartwright becomes the man in D.C. Last Sunday Cartwright was effective out of the backfield catching seven passes and totaling 140 yards. He'll start Sunday against the Eagles, but should be a safe play in PPR leagues.

Rookie quarterback Matt Stafford unlikely….
With Stafford not practicing in a short week, it's highly unlikely fantasy owners will see him on Thursday against the Packers. Not only is this bad news for owners with Stafford coming off a huge 400-plus yards passing and five touchdown effort, but his absence will greatly affect the performance of wide receiver Calvin Johnson (if he plays). Without the rookie, Megatron (less than 100 percent) will be a very risky play against the Packs 7th ranked pass defense.

Player Notes From Across My Wire...

Steven Jackson is Steady as they go….
The Rams running back has been a solid fantasy starter much of the 2009 season and over his last four-starts, he’s been as good as anyone. In his last four Jackson has averaged 147 yards from scrimmage and 18.5 fantasy points per game.

TO’s breakthrough; short-lived or will it last….
The Bills finally did something right, although they did not achieve the desired result. What they did achieve was that if they get their playmaker (Owens) involved, he will make plays. On Sunday Owens was huge with 197 yards receiving and with the Dolphins (ranked 22nd against the pass) up next fantasy owners could see more.

Favre; As good as any fantasy quarterback….
He may be 40 years of age, but he’s playing like half that age. Over the past month and a half (since Oct. 18th) Brett Favre has been at the top of the fantasy charts. In his last five starts Favre has passed for over 1,400 yards and thrown 12 touchdown passes. His yardage numbers are not off the charts, but his 21 touchdowns this season puts him among the elite.

Could LT be returning to fantasy form?….
It may be too soon to start counting your fantasy points for LT owners, but after his last two games the Chargers running back is looking much closer to form than he ever has. In his past two starts LT has carried the ball 44 times for 169 yards rushing, three touchdowns, and 34 fantasy points.

Sidney Rice is a fantasy receiver on the rise….
The Vikings wide receiver has suddenly emerged into a fantasy monster over the past several weeks and has clearly become Brett Favre’s favorite target. In his past five starts Rice has been targeted 41 times and during that stretch he has produced huge; 33 catches, 642 yards, and two scores.

What’s Happening
Around the League

WR-Andre Johnson could face tough challenge….
The Bengal’s secondary has been susceptible to the big play this season, but one thing they’ve managed to master along the way is shutting down the opposition’s number one receiving option. Johnson leads the Texans with 28 receptions for 437 yards.

DB-Courtand Finnegan not expected to play Sunday.…
The loss of Finnegan for Sunday only adds to the Titans problems in the secondary with cornerback Nick Harper already out with a broken arm. Finnegan is missing his thired straight game and with quarterback Tom Brady on the bill for Sunday, it could be a long afternoon.

WR-Jeremy Maclin expected to start against Raiders…..
With wide receiver Kevin Curtis battling injuries for the first part of the season, rookie wideout Jeremy Maclin has taken full advantage. His solid play and spectacular catches last week have likely elevated him into the starting lineup for the remainder of the season.

QB-Matt Stafford to be Game-time decision…
The Lion’s rookie quarterback Matthew Stafford is again expected to be a game-time decision on Sunday. With both he and wide receiver Calvin Johnson not practicing Friday the outlook for Sunday looks bleak.

TE-Dallas Clark helping carry the load this season….
When the Colts released Marvin Harrison in the offseason, the first questions out were who would fill his shoes; that daunting task fell on the shoulders of the Colts third year receiver Anthony Gonzalez. With the kid going down in week one, Clark has stepped up huge in the passing game with 35 receptions and 441 yards.

QB-Tom Brady could be in for a big passing day….
With the Titan’s secondary in shambles missing its’ top three corners due to injury, the Patriot’s quarterback Tom Brady could be ready to strike. The passing game also received a little boost with Wes Welker being removed from the injury report this week.

RB-Steven Jackson looking to bust out on Sunday….
The Rams star running back has been kept out of the endzone thus far this season, but Sunday against the Jaguars this could all change. Jackson has been the mainstay on offense for the Rams this season and he’ll be facing a defense that is ranked 18th against the run.

RB-Cedric Benson is leading the Bengal’s ground game….
Benson has been a pleasant surprise for the team since his arrival last season, but his week 5 performance against the Ravens was impressive. His 120 yards rushing not only helped elevate his team to a huge divisional win, but it also moved him into the top rushing spot in the league with 487 yards on the ground.

RB-Correll Buckhalter practices on Saturday….
The Bronco’s running back was able to complete a full practice on Saturday and is listed as probable for Monday night against the Chargers.

WR-Michael Crabtree expected to make debut in week 7….
According to team staff, the rookie is putting in the extra time and has been having good practices with the team during the bye. The Niners are in big need for help in the passing game this season.

IDP News From Across the Wire…

D'Qwell Jackson, LB, Cleveland Browns
D'Qwell Jackson was limited in practice for the second straight day Thursday, according to the Browns' official website.
My Fantasy Read on Jackson: After last week’s 13 tackles, Jackson is probably following the same formula of taking it easy during the week and leaving it on the field on Sunday. Jackson leads the Browns with 52 tackles….

Shaun Rogers, DT, Cleveland Browns
Shaun Rogers did not practice Thursday, according to the Browns' official website.
My Fantasy Read on Rogers: The Brown’s nose tackles remains the big boy in the middle, but does only have one sack this season. His absences shouldn’t be a concern as Rogers followed a similar regiment last week and played on Sunday. Rogers is likely just resting up for the Steelers….

James Farrior, LB, Pittsburgh Steelers
James Farrior practiced Thursday, according to Scout.com. He has been dealing with an elbow ailment.
My Fantasy Read on Farrior: The Steeler’s stud linebacker is a bit off last season’s pace with just 28 tackles this season, but he’s a reliable start and is not likely to miss Sunday…..

Stephen Tulloch, LB, Tennessee Titans
Stephen Tulloch was limited in today's practice while dealing with a knee ailment, according to the Titans' official website.
My Fantasy Read on Tulloch: The Titan’s middle-backer has been solid this season and sounds like he could be questionable for Sunday, but if he plays he’s a must start against the Patriots….

Chris Harris, S, Carolina Panthers
Chris Harris noted that his ailing left knee held up fine in Week 5 against Washington, according to the Associated Press.
My Fantasy Read on Harris: The Panther’s 5th year safety was solid last week and looks like he’s ready to resume his hard-hitting role. He’s a good play this week against a struggling Tampa offense….

Keith Ellison, LB, Buffalo Bills
Keith Ellison was limited during today's practice, according to the Buffalo News. He is dealing with a sore knee.
My Fantasy Read on Ellison: The injury hardly sounds like anything to be overly concerned about. Ellison has been a bright spot on the defense this season and with the Jet’s running game next on the schedule he shine even more on Sunday….

Troy Polamalu, S, Pittsburgh Steelers
Troy Polamalu practiced for the second straight day Thursday, according to the Associated Press. He has been recovering from a sprained MCL.
My Fantasy Read on Polamalu: The Steeler’s playmaking safety looks on track to play Sunday. With the recent loss of Aaron Smith (placed on IR), Polamalu’s return could not come soon enough, get him in your lineups….

Ernie Sims, LB, Detroit Lions
Ernie Sims (shoulder) was limited in practice for the second straight day on Thursday, according to the Detroit Free Press.
My Fantasy Read on Sims: The reports don’t sound good for Sims to play. He’s worth hanging onto if you’ve got the roster space, but it looks like you’ll need to keep him benched this Sunday….

Brian Cushing, LB, Houston Texans
Brian Cushing did not practice Thursday while nursing a sore foot, according to the Houston Chronicle.
My Fantasy Read on Cushing: The rookie linebacker has been solid thus far with 39 tackles this season. He’ll likely rest this week and go easy, but expect to see him on the field Sunday…..

Ty Warren, DE, New England Patriots
Ty Warren was limited in today's practice while still recovering from a calf ailment, according to the Boston Herald.
My Fantasy Read on Warren: The Pat’s defensive end has been less than spectacular this season, although he was decent last week. He has yet to blossom into any kind of IDP stud, at less than 100 percent he’s better off on your bench….

Vince Wilfork, DT, New England Patriots
Vince Wilfork was limited in Thursday's practice while nursing an ankle ailment, according to the Boston Globe.
My Fantasy Read on Wilfork: The Patriot’s nose tackle was limited last week as well, but was able to play against Denver. It’s safe to expect the same routine here, but Wilfork is not a big numbers guy and shouldn’t be played unless facing a heavy run team; the Titan’s have yet to be a heavy-run team this season….

Player News From Across the Wire...

Hines Ward, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers
Hines Ward sat out Wednesday's practice.
My Fantasy read on Ward: Expect this to be the norm with players like Hines Ward that have earned the respect of their peers. Ward is likely resting and healing, so expect to see the Pro Bowler on Sunday against the Browns…..

Marc Bulger, QB, St. Louis Rams
The official Twitter page of the St. Louis Rams is reporting that the team has named Marc Bulger as their starting quarterback for this week's game against the Jaguars. Bulger will replace Kyle Boller, who suffered a head injury last week.
My Fantasy read on Bulger: The Jaguars have just four sacks this season. If Bulger and his offensive line can find him time, he could bounce back this week against the league’s 30th ranked pass defense….

Maurice Jones-Drew, RB, Jacksonville Jaguars
Maurice Jones-Drew is frustrated and displeased with the Jaguars' offense, according to the Associated Press. He said, "It just seems like now if we do not get 30 yards rushing, we just go away from the running game. I have never been part of a team like that."
My Fantasy read on Jones-Drew: this kind of “speaking out” can have two possible outcomes; one it does nothing or two is sparks this team to man-up. If this team is going to rise to the challenge, expect them to hop on MJD’s back and let him lead the way. This could be a big week….

Dustin Keller, TE, New York Jets
Rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez noted that he needs to target Dustin Keller more in the passing game, according to the Star-Ledger. Sanchez said, "I need to do a better job of finding him, because he is a great target. He has been great."
My Fantasy read on Keller: Fantasy owners shouldn’t get too excited too fast. This is likely to be a gradual process as Sanchez is more likely to test out his new toy, wide receiver Braylon Edwards. Keller is good and will eventually be worked back into the rotation, but give it time….

Ben Watson, TE, New England Patriots
Ben Watson was limited is Wednesday's practice while recovering from a head injury, according to the Boston Globe.
My Fantasy read on Watson: The Patriot’s tight end is a classic hit and miss, now add injury to the mix and he becomes a difficult play. Even when healthy, you’re likely to fall victim to his poor outinsg on occasion. With only has 14 receptions this season, he’s a middle TE2.….

Willie Parker, RB, Pittsburgh Steelers
Willie Parker fully practiced Wednesday, according to the Browns' official website.

The Cowboys running back Felix Jones did not travel with the team to Kansas City. His return is expected in week six following the bye. With Jones out, it will be the Barber and Choice show on Sunday……

WR-Jerricho Cotchery does not practice Saturday.…
The Jet’s receiver is listed as questionable for Monday night, but his prognosis is not looking good. With Cotchery out, the newest Jet’s receiver (Braylon) Edwards could see more flight time……

QB-Eli Manning looks ready to go…..
The Giant’s quarterback appears set to make his 76th consecutive start. Manning practice in full Friday and looked good showing no ill effects from his foot injury. Manning also participated in the team’s walk-through on Saturday, but he’s still likely to be a gametime decision…..

QB-Matt Stafford to be Game-time decision…
The Lion’s rookie is dealing with a knee injury and is listed as questionable for Sunday, but he has yet to be ruled OUT. Head coach Jim Schwatrz won’t announce his start until Sunday…….

DB-Bob Sanders travels with Colts, could play….
The Colt’s safety has yet to play a game this season and although he’s traveling with the team it’s still iffy whether he’ll be able to suit up. Although Sanders was able to practice on a limited basis this week he is still doubtful for Sunday…..

WR-Braylon Edwards impressing new coaches….
The Jet’s new receiver has been practicing with the team and impressing with his quick study. Edwards recently signed by the team has a firm grasp of the verbiage and formations and could play a featured role in the passing game Monday night…..

WR-Austin Miles will make start for injured wideout….
With starting receiver Roy E. Williams banged up and OUT for Sunday, Miles will get the start in his place. While Miles gets the start, wide receiver Sam Hurd should see plenty of time on the field as well……

The Giants are stating that Eli Manning will not seek a second opinion on his injured right foot after a contrary report stated that he will, according to Ralph Vacchiano's (NY Daily News) twitter page.
My Fantasy read on Manning: Are you kidding, there’s no way little brother will be out-staged by his big brother. There are recent reports the injury is not as serious as feared and it looks like Manning will likely play Sunday against the Raiders….

Updating an earlier item, ESPN is now reporting that the 49ers and holdout draft pick Michael Crabtree are indeed set to renew contract negotiations.
My Fantasy read on Crabtree: It’s not surprising now that Crabtree can see the team doesn’t need him to be successful. I imagine a deal could get done relatively soon. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Crabtree join the team just before their week six bye, so that he might be ready to play in week 7…..

Matthew Stafford, QB, Detroit Lions
Lions coach Jim Schwartz said on Monday that quarterback Matthew Stafford is "day-to-day" after injuring his knee on Sunday, and that he has not been ruled out for Week 5, according to NFL.com.
My Fantasy read on Stafford: Stafford may not have been ruled out yet, but it’s highly unlikely the team would risk his health, plan on Culpepper starting unless Matt undergoes some miracle recovery….

Seahawks' beat writer Danny O'Neil is reporting on Twitter that quarterback Matt Hasselbeck will travel with the team to Indianapolis this weekend. Hasselbeck is not expected to play, however.

The Washington Post is reporting that Redskins' running back Clinton Portis is being listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Bucs. Coach Jim Zorn said that there is a fifty-fifty chance that Portis will play.

Updating a previous report, Lions' running back Kevin Smith told the Detroit Free Press that he will play on Sunday. "It's football, so I'm sure I'll have to endure some pain, but it's good enough to go. I feel healthy enough to play at a high level," Smith said.
My Fantasy read on Smith: It sounds like Smith is confident to go, but we’ll still have to wait for the coaches decision on Sunday. There’s no doubt this will be a game-time call…..

My Fantasy read on Lewis: With the Browns running back definitely looking like he’ll miss Jerome Harrison is the favorite to start. The Bengals have a decent run defense this season, so Harrison is only a consideration in the deepest of leagues….

Kyle Boller, QB, St. Louis Rams
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that Kyle Boller will start at quarterback for the Rams on Sunday against the 49ers. Boller has practiced with the first-team all week while Marc Bulger deals with his shoulder injury.
My Fantasy read on Boller: Bulger is out and Boller is in this week. With a shaky O-line the move could actually be a blessing in disguise with a more mobile Boller. The Rams backup will have a tough matchup on Sunday against a Niner’s defense that can bring pressure on the edges. He’s bettor off staying on your bench this week….

Brandon Jacobs, RB, New York Giants
According to the New York Daily News, Giants running back Brandon Jacobs told ESPN Radio in New York on Friday that he would retire after this season if his numbers don't improve this season he will retire. Jacobs is averaging only 3.4 yards per carry after three games.
My Fantasy read on Jacobs: The Giant’s starter is in line for a big day on Sunday against a week Chiefs run defense. With Bradshaw ailing, Jacobs could see a heavier load…..

My Fantasy read on Crabtree: This recent report would indicate the team is reaching out, but with every success they have on the field without the kid, this can’t bode well for his contract dollars. It doesn’t sound like anything is imminent, so don’t expect to see Crabtree signed anytime soon….

LaDainian Tomlinson, RB, San Diego Chargers
LaDainian Tomlinson is already being listed as a game-time decision for this Sunday with a sprained ankle, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.
My Fantasy read on Tomlinson: The Charger’s won’t lose much with LT out and Sproles in the lineup. LT did not look particularly sharp Monday night and this injury now appears to be more of a setback than first thought. With the Ravens on the slate, a less than 100 percent LT might not be a smart play for week two…..

Dallas Clark, TE, Indianapolis Colts
The Indianapolis Star reports that with wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez out several weeks with injury, Dallas Clark will play an ever larger role in the Colts' passing attack.

My Fantasy read on Cassel: Cassel looks to risky to be in any fantasy lineups this week, especially facing the Raven’s defense…..

Brandon Marshall, WR, Denver Broncos
Brandon Marshall and the Broncos are reportedly discussing the possibility of inking him to a contract extension, according to ESPN.
My Fantasy read on Marshall: The reports are surprising to hear so soon, but word is the kid has been on his best behavior with a great attitude. It looks like he will play Sunday, limited role or not he should be in your lineup on Sunday……

Jonathan Stewart, RB, Carolina Panthers
Jonathan Stewart will play this Sunday against the Eagles, according to Panthers.com.
My Fantasy read on Stewart: The Panthers back up running back has missed a lot of time. Even if he is playing, his touches could be limited and the rookie Goodson could steal some carries. Fantasy owners would be wise to avoid……

Terrell Owens, WR, Buffalo Bills
Terrell Owens does not like the Bills' plan to use a no-huddle offense this season, according to the Associated Press.
My Fantasy read on Owens: Owens tweeted that he was kidding. Expect the T.O. show to begin Monday, he should be in your lineups…..

My Fantasy read on Curtis: Curtis is a decent WR3 fantasy option, but there are better options to start this week. Only if you play in leagues that start three receivers might Curtis be in your lineup…..

As expected, the Associated Press reports that running back Maurice Jones-Drew returned to practice Wednesday and was in full pads.
My Fantasy read on Jones-Drew: Jones-Drew is expected to have a great 2009 campaign as the featured back in Jacksonville. His injury this preseason was never considered serious, he’s a must start for week one……

Tony Gonzalez, TE, Atlanta Falcons
Atlantafalcons.com reports that tight end Tony Gonzalez alluded to having a lesser role in the Falcons offense. "I've caught enough balls and had my heyday. It doesn't mean I can't go out there and still perform. I'm still going out there and I feel just as good as ever. But at the same time it doesn't matter to me."
My Fantasy read on Gonzalez: Despite what you hear and read, it only matters what we see on Sunday. The future hall-of-fame tight end was not brought into Atlanta to block. He’s a must start every week…..

Hakeem Nicks, WR, New York Giants
The New York Daily News reports that Hakeem Nicks has moved up to fourth on the Giants depth chart and is seriously challenging Mario Manningham for the No. 3 spot.
My Fantasy read on Nicks: It’s too early to jump on the Nicks bandwagon, but keep your eye on the kid, it could be a matter of time before he starts making an impace. Keep him on the sideline this week…..

Anquan Boldin, WR, Arizona Cardinals
The Arizona Republic reports that Anquan Boldin (hamstring) stated that he will "definitely play" on Sunday against the 49ers.
My Fantasy read on Boldin: If Boldin is playing Sunday (and it appears he will), he’s a must start, especially against the Niners where’s he had success in the past….

Ray Rice, RB, Baltimore Ravens
According to Aaron Wilson on Twitter, Ray Rice says that he will be the starting running back against the Chiefs on Sunday.
My Fantasy read on Rice: No surprise here, Rice has been the favorite all along and with a nice week one matchup against a mediocre Kansas City defense, he’s a nice play for week one…..

Pierre Thomas, RB, New Orleans Saints
Saints beat writer Jeff Duncan reports via Twitter that he would rule running back Pierre Thomas "out" for Sunday's game against the Lions.
My Fantasy read on Thomas: The Saint’s starter has missed too much time recently to consider for action this Sunday. The best bet for fantasy owners is too sit in week one……

Justin Fargas missed Monday's practice with the Raiders, according to the Contra Costa Times. He is dealing with a hamstring injury.
My Fantasy read on Fargas: McFadden is already the favorite to win the job, expect this setback to open the door for D-Mac and possibly keep Fargas sidelined longer as he heals. Fargas is likely low man on the totem pole, so even when he does return, he’ll see limited touches being a part of the Raider’s backfield rotation…..

Carson Palmer, QB, Cincinnati Bengals
Carson Palmer practiced with the Bengals Monday, according to Joe Reedy's (Cincinnati Enquirer) twitter page.
My Fantasy read on Palmer: Expect this to be a rebound season for Palmer, whose 2008 campaign was cut short. He looks like he’ll be ready for week one and should have a good matchup facing a questionable Bronco’s defense…..

Brandon Pettigrew, TE, Detroit Lions
Brandon Pettigrew will be the Lions' starting tight end for Week 1 at New Orleans, according to the Detroit News.
My Fantasy read on Pettigrew: The Lions were a bad team in 2008 and one offseason will not turn things completely around, but with some talent they should improve. Pettigrew should be a part of that improvement movement, but he’s not worth drafting early. He’ll be one to watch and could be a flier worth chancing later in the year……

Tim Hightower, RB, Arizona Cardinals
Tim Hightower will start over rookie Chris Wells in Week 1 against the 49ers, according to the Arizona Republic.
My Fantasy read on Hightower: the announcement was expected with Wells falling behind in camp due to injury. As Wells gains experience he could eventually supplant Hightower as the starter. Hightower could be a worthy start early, but with limited value, he’ll be an early “play with caution”……

Roy Williams, WR, Dallas Cowboys
Roy Williams practiced Monday with the Cowboys, according to the Dallas Morning News. He has been nursing a shoulder injury.
My Fantasy read on Williams: It’s too early to gauge the impact of the injury, but it’s a good sign that he is practicing. If he’s healthy to play, Williams is expected to be the Cowboys number one wideout, but second receiving option. He’s a decent WR3 in fantasy now, but has lots of room to improve…….

Clinton Portis, RB, Washington Redskins
Clinton Portis practiced on Monday, according to the Washington Times.
My Fantasy read on Portis: There has not been a lot said about Portis this preseason, since some of his grumblings early in camp. Portis is a good RB2 early, but watch his carries as he'll wear down and can breakdown......

Greg Jennings, WR, Green Bay Packers
Greg Jennings, who has been recovering from a concussion, has been deemed fit to play in Sunday's season opener against the rival Bears at Lambeau Field, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.
My Fantasy read on Jennings: If Jennings is cleared he will play and is a must start. The team's other reciever Donald Driver has looked good this preseason, but Jennings is now the man in the passing game....

Pierre Thomas, RB, New Orleans Saints
Pierre Thomas was seen walking with a limp in the Saints' locker room Monday, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. He is dealing with a sprained MCL, and also suffered a cut from a fence which required stitches.
My Fantasy read on Thomas: Fantasy owners may want to worry about this one. Not only is it likely that Thomas sits week one, but Mike Bell will have even more opportunity to impress and steal touches. Thomas' once rising stock is starting to teeter.....

T.J. Houshmandzadeh, WR, Seattle Seahawks
T.J. Houshmandzadeh sat out Monday's practice, according to the Seattle Times.
My Fantasy read on Houshmandzeh: Not a lot of concern here. The team is likely resting its’ best pass receiver as they prepare for week one. TJ is a must start.......

Jerious Norwood, RB, Atlanta Falcons
Jerious Norwood missed Monday's practice after injuring his knee in the third preseason game, according to the Falcons' official website.
My Fantasy read on Norwood: This doesn't sound good for Norwood and it seems possible he could miss week one. No concern here, Norwood is likely on your bench and should stay there week one......

Cadillac Williams, RB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Cadillac Williams has been named the Buccaneers' starting running back for Week 1 against Dallas, according to their official team website.
My Fantasy read on Williams: The move comes as a big surprise, but the real impact is the Buc's backfield now looks like a crowded committee. If this moves holds true, starting any Bucs running back is going to cause a mammoth fantasy headache......

Anquan Boldin, WR, Arizona Cardinals
Anquan Boldin sat out the Cardinals' practice on Monday, according to the Arizona Republic. Boldin has been sidelined with a hamstring injury, and he missed the final two preseason game.
My Fantasy read on Boldin: This is not a good sign considering Boldin was slowed with a hamstring last season. As tough as the Cardinal's receiver is, he's not likely to sit, but these are the kind of injuries that could linger and he could become a risky play early on......

Matthew Stafford, QB, Detroit Lions
ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting on his Twitter page that the Lions have announced that rookie Matthew Stafford will be their starting quarterback this season. Stafford beat out veteran Daunte Culpepper for the job.
My Fantasy read on Stafford: To no surprise the team chose Stafford. With all things being equal, the team sided with the future. For those in deep leagues that grabbed Stafford, hang on Lucy. The kid is going to take his lumps and likely won't be ready to start fantasy for some time.....

Matt Cassel, QB, Kansas City Chiefs
Chiefs' beat writer Josh Looney is reporting on his Twitter page that quarterback Matt Cassel is in full pads at Monday's practice. Cassel is suffering from a strained MCL that he suffered earlier in the preseason.
My Fantasy read on Cassel: The Chief's camp has been quiet, so despite his return it could be too early to read. Cassel has a sprained MCL and could be a riskt start, but he should have been drafted as a mid backup QB anyway, so he should be on your bench regardless......

Darren McFadden, RB, Oakland Raiders
The Contra Costa Times is reporting that Raiders' coach Tom Cable has decided who will be the team's number one running back this season. Cable said he would not announce the decision until he has had a chance to inform Darren McFadden, Justin Fargas, and Michael Bush of his decision.
My Fantasy read on McFadden: All the signs would indicate that McFadden will get the nod, especially with Fargas still nursing a hamstring. Many think this could be a breakout season for D-Mac, but remember before you sell the farm he's part of a committee and a Raider....

Brandon Marshall, WR, Denver Broncos
The Denver Post is reporting that the Broncos still do not intend to trade wide receiver Brandon Marshall despite rumors that the team may be in talks with the Jets. Marshall returned to practice on Sunday.
My Fantasy read on Marshall: Good news out of the Broncos camp, Marshall has returned to practice and with a good attitude. While nothing is guaranteed, its sounding like Marshall has a shot at playing. If he plays, he needs to be in your lineup....

Kelvin Hayden is hopeful that his hamstring injury will heal in time for him to play in Week 1 against the Jaguars, according to the Indianapolis Star. He said, "I am very confident I will be ready on Week 1. Since the injury occurred, I feel like I am making progress every day."
My Fantasy Read on Hayden: Hayden sounds like a good shot to play week 1. The Colts corner is solid and a big IDP fantasy option when healthy. He’s a good mid-round pick in fantasy drafts……

Rey Maualuga, LB, Cincinnati Bengals
Rookie Rey Maualuga is expected to be the Bengals' starting strong-side linebacker in Week 1, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.
My Fantasy Read on Maualuga: The Bengal’s rookie linebacker figures to be a busy IDP option. At strong-side Maualuga should be a decent play, but best drafted as a back-up in fantasy leagues……

Chris McAlister, CB, Baltimore Ravens
The Bears have inquired about former Ravens' cornerback Chris McAlister, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
My Fantasy Read on McAlister: The Bears are in need of lots of help in the secondary, but McAlister hardly looks like a permanent fix. He has no fantasy value at this time…..

B.J. Raji, DT, Green Bay Packers
Rookie defensive tackle B.J. Raji left the Packers' final preseason game on Thursday with an apparent leg/ankle injury, according to the Twitter page of beat writer Tom Pelissero.
My Fantasy Read on Raji: Raji should do well in the middle, but will likely fill the role of being more of a clogger and gap filler against more accomplished O-lineman. He could be a productive fantasy DL, but owners will want to play it safe and draft him much later……..

Antonio Pierce, LB, New York Giants
The Newark Star-Ledger reports that linebacker Antonio Pierce will play in Thursday's preseason game against the Patriots. He has missed practice time recently and the team's last two games with a sore foot.
My Fantasy Read on Pierce: The Giants linebacker is a solid IDP option coming off 95 tackles in 2008. He’s a mid-rounder in drafts and is expected to be ready for week 1……

Zach Diles, LB, Houston Texans
Zach Diles will be the Texans' starting weak-side linebacker this season, according to the National Football Post.
My Fantasy Read on Diles: The Texan’s linebacker is destined to have a great campaign in 2009. In eight starts a year ago he finished with 66 tackles. Expect big numbers this season and take him early in fantasy drafts…….

Leonard Little, DE, St. Louis Rams
Leonard Little "probably" will not play in the Rams' preseason finale on Thursday as he deals with an aching knee, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
My Fantasy Read on Little: The Ram’s veteran defensive end is not the player he once was. Last season Little started just five games, finished the year with only 18 tackles and missed two games. Even though he did manage six sacks along the way, his value will be limited and he’s only worth a late draft pick in fantasy leagues…….

An undisclosed source close to the situation stated that it is highly unlikely that the Broncos will deal receiver Brandon Marshall to the Jets, according to Newsday.
My Fantasy read on Marshall: Based on what we are seeing and hearing out of the Bronco’s camp, don’t expect to see Marshall moved. When and will he play is a bigger concern. He’s still a huge risk and very tough to take early. Avoid if you can, but if you’re in position he offers best value as a WR3 at the moment…..

Adam Vinatieri, K, Indianapolis Colts
Adam Vinatieri passed his physical Wednesday after undergoing surgeries on his right hip and right knee during the offseason, according to the National Football Post.
My Fantasy read on Vinatieri: Recent reports indicate the Colts kicker should be ready for the opener. Vinatieri is a PK1 in any format and as long as he’s good to go for week, he should be drafted as your number one…..

Craig Davis, WR, San Diego Chargers
Craig Davis has returned to practice with the Chargers, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. He has been dealing with knee tendinitis.
My Fantasy read on Davis: The Chargers fourth receiver is buried behind Jackson, Chambers, and Floyed. He’s been somewhat of a disappointment thus far in his career and as the number four in San Deigo, he won’t offer much fantasy value even in deeper leagues…..

Brent Celek, TE, Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles are reportedly monitoring the Patriots' tight ends, according to the Boston Globe.
My Fantasy read on Celek: The Eagles could be looking to add depth and some blocking skill to the position. Celek is a solid pass receiver, although not the best blocker. He’s coming off a strong post season and could be a hot red-zone target for fantasy……

Michael Crabtree, WR, San Francisco 49ers
According to Adam Schefter on Twitter, the Niners and top pick Michael Crabtree are not even close to signing a deal.
My Fantasy read on Crabtree: The Niner’s rookie is going to be a late bloomer this season, if he even blooms. He’ll miss all of camp and is coming off foot surgery. He’s going to be a risky flier this season, that probably won’t reap any rewards until the second half…..

Sammy Morris, RB, New England Patriots
Mike Reiss of the Boston Globe believes that Sammy Morris has slipped to fifth on the Patriots' depth chart at running back.
My Fantasy read on Morris: The Patriots are full in the backfield and this could be the year Morris is out. He could catch on somewhere down the road, but even then he’ll offer very little if any fantasy value……

Brett Favre, QB, Minnesota Vikings
According to SI.com, Brett Favre will not play in Friday's preseason finale against Dallas.
My Fantasy read on Favre: The almost 40-year old gun slinger proved enough last week, he’s got plenty left. He’ll avoid any injury risk and focus on shaking the rust during practice over the next ten days. Expect Favre to be a solid QB2 in fantasy to start the season, but we’ll have to see how the aging gladiator holds up……

James Davis, RB, Cleveland Browns
James Davis is considered the favorite to hold the No. 2 role at running back behind Jamal Lewis, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
My Fantasy read on Davis: Davis has looked very good this preseason and could be a threat to steal carries away from the starter Jamal Lewis. Davis has shinned this preseason and could be a sleeper in Cleveland (whatever that means). He looks good enough to keep watch, but on the offense you might want to relax before leaping…..

Brian Leonard, RB, Cincinnati Bengals
Brian Leonard is believed to be the favorte over DeDe Dorsey for the No. 3 role at running back, according to the Bengals' official website.
My Fantasy read on Leonard: The Bengal’s back-up runner is not glamorous or explosive, but he’s solid and consistent which may be enough for this offense. Right now Leonard has little fantasy value, but in deeper leagues he could worth considering as a late round flier……

Matt Schaub, QB, Houston Texans
Matt Schaub is progressing well in his recovery from a sprained left ankle, according to the Texans' official website. Head coach Gary Kubiak said, "He has made a lot of progress in the last 24 hours. He is out here with the group watching things. He is on a regular treatment schedule and trying to get ready for New York."
My Fantasy read on Schaub: An injury will always make a fantasy owner nervous, but with Schaub you have to hold your breath. If you took him as your number one, better have your crying towel ready, could be a long and tenuous season. He’s progressing and as long as he’s healthy enough to play, he’ll produce with the best, just hope the line can keep his jersey clean……

Wes Welker, WR, New England Patriots
There is belief that Wes Welker could miss Week 1 while recovering from an undisclosed injury, according to the Boston Globe.
My Fantasy read on Welker: This is not good news for owners that took Welker as a high to mid number two receiver. He’s still going to get you those needed catches in PPR leagues, but he’s not the biggest guy so better hope the injury isn’t anything that will linger……

Jerious Norwood, RB, Atlanta Falcons
Jerious Norwood (knee) is being held out of the team's final preseason game only as a precautionary move, according to AtlantaFalcons.com
My Fantasy read on Norwood: So much for the plan to limit Turner’s number of carries. If Norwood is not 100 percent for week one, expect “the beast” to be the focal point of the running game until Jerious is full speed. Even with the few extra carries, once he’s healthy Norwood is only a mid to low RB3 in most formats…..

Frank Gore, RB, San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers plan on using a 60-to-40 run-to-pass ratio in their offense this season, according to CBS Sports.
My Fantasy read on Gore: We heard it all last year, the offense will feature Gore. The fact is, even if the team does go run heavy, back-up Glenn Coffee has earned his way into some of those carries. Gore should be better this season, but behind that line he’s just a solid RB2 and should be drafted as such…..

Tom Brady, QB, New England Patriots
Tom Brady will not play in the team's final preseason game this Thursday, though not because his throwing shoulder is hurt, according to the Boston Globe.
My Fantasy read on Brady: The Patriot’s and their field general is just being safe. Brady looked pretty good this preseason, as he shakes his rust he will only get better. With 13 weeks to keep getting better, he’s still one of fantasy’s top passers and will get you plenty of W’s…..

Knowshon Moreno, RB, Denver Broncos
Broncos coach Josh McDaniels believes rookie running back Knowshon Moreno is healthy enough to play in the team's preseason game on Thursday night, according to the Denver Post.
My Fantasy read on Moreno: The Bronco’s rookie won’t play in the team’s preseason finale, but he looks ready for action week one. Behind the Bronco’s offensive line, he’ll offer good value as a RB3, but if he’s as good as advertised, expect greater things…..

Chris Baker, TE, New England Patriots
Chris Baker has emerged as the Patriots' top tight end this preseason, according to the Boston Herald.
My Fantasy read on Baker: The Patriots new tight end could become a nice late round steal in most drafts. After disappearing in New York last season, Baker has quietly re-emerged and could be a red-zone target for the Pats and fantasy owners…..

Laurence Maroney, RB, New England Patriots
Laurence Maroney still looks "tentative at the line" this preseason, but has made a "positive impression with improved skills as a pass-catcher," according to the Boston Herald.
My Fantasy read on Maroney: The Patriots runner has been non-existent in fantasy since the 2007 post-season. He’s likely to part of a committee and will have limited fantasy value, owners may want to look elsewhere for help…..

Chris Wells, RB, Arizona Cardinals
The Arizona Republic reports that rookie running back Chris Wells will likely start for the team at some point this season.
My Fantasy read on Wells: This has been the though most of the preseason, we just need to see the kid on the field to make that impression stick. Wells will fit best as a RB3 draft pick, but might not have any impact until the second half of the season…..

Carson Palmer, QB, Cincinnati Bengals
Carson Palmer (sprained ankle) will not play in the Bengals' final preseason game against the Colts on Thursday night, but will be ready for Week 1, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
My Fantasy read on Palmer: No surprises here. The only thing to watch is how he looks in practice and his timing with his receivers. Palmer is coming off an injury shortened 2008 and is predicted to be one of this year’s sleepers. Expect a strong 2009 campaign for the former USC Trojan……

Nate Washington, WR, Tennessee Titans
Nate Washington (hamstring) might be available to play in Week 1, according to the Nashville Tennessean.
My Fantasy read on Washington: Very few are talking about the Steeler’s number three receiver, because in Tennessee he is the Titan’s number one. He has decent fantasy value, but on a Titan’s team that will run first, he’s a high pick WR3 in most formats with some upside value (not much, but some)…….

Eugene Wilson is considered day-to-day after sustaining a knee injury during Monday's preseason game against the Vikings, according to the Houston Chronicle.
My Fantasy Read on Wilson: It’s always unfortunate when players get injured, but it did not appear the illegal block by Favre was done with any malice. Wilson should be fine and return soon enough, although he’s not a big IDP favorite….

Curtis Johnson, DE, Indianapolis Colts
According to the Dallas Morning News, the Cowboys have claimed linebacker Curtis Johnson off waivers from the Colts.
My Fantasy Read on Johnson: The Cowboys have plenty of talented starters. Johnson doesn’t figure to see any meaningful time and isn’t fantasy worthy….

Reggie Nelson, S, Jacksonville Jaguars
Head coach Jack Del Rio indicated that Reggie Nelson will be the Jaguars' starting free safety for Week 1 at Indianapolis, according to their official team website.
My Fantasy Read on Nelson: Nelson could be somewhat of a modest fantasy sleeper playing free-safety. He’s not a big tackler, but last season he started 15 games and had 5 picks to go along with 63 tackles…..

My Fantasy Read on Tillman: The Bears secondary is in need of help, but it sounds like the playmaking Tillman will not be to the rescue. He’s still a worthy draft selection, but better fit for the later rounds with his high injury risk…..

A.J. Hawk, LB, Green Bay Packers
According to the Green Bay Press-Gazette, the Packers likely won't use A.J. Hawk as an every-down linebacker this season.
My Fantasy Read on Hawk: This news will definitely take a chunk out of his fantasy stock. With limited play, his production levels will be expected to tail off some, lowering his fantasy value. He’ll serve well as a fantasy back-up, but not a starter….

Rod Hood, CB, Chicago Bears
ESPN.com is reporting that cornerback Rod Hood has signed a one-year deal with the Chicago Bears. Hood was released by the Browns on Monday after going to the Super Bowl with Arizona last season.
My Fantasy Read on Hood: The Bears can use plenty of help in the secondary, but it may not come from Hood who’s just looking for a job. With the Bear’s luck in the secondary he’s not going to have much fantasy value to start, but could offer something later in the season…..

Osi Umenyiora, DE, New York Giants
The Newark Star-Ledger is reporting that Giants' defensive end Osi Umenyiora returned to practice on Tuesday. Umenyiora lef tthe team's facility yesterday after getting into an argument with defensive coordinator Bill Sheridan.
My Fantasy Read on Umenyiora: Umenyiora seemed to have a difference of opinion, but great news for fantasy owners to see him back at practice. Completely healed from his 2008 injury woes, he should be able to take his place back among the pass rushing elite…..

Tye Hill, CB, Atlanta Falcons
According to the team's Twitter page, the St. Louis Rams have traded former first-round pick Tye Hill to Atlanta. The Rams will receive Atlanta's seventh-round pick in next year's draft in return.
My Fantasy Read on Hill: Interesting move for the Falcons, but Hill has a chance to rebound from his dismal past in St.Louis. With a much better pass rush up front, Hill has a chance to be an effective corner. His fantasy value is still a big question and he should be avoided for the time being, but key an eye out…..

Danieal Manning, S, Chicago Bears
The Chicago Tribune reports that defensive back Danieal Manning (hamstring) will play in Thursday's exhibition game against the Browns.
My Fantasy Read on Manning: Manning is coming off a sub-par season a year ago and it doesn’t look like 2009 has more promise. He has limited fantasy value and would be better off avoided during drafts…..

Nnamdi Asomugha, CB, Oakland Raiders
ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting on his Twitter page that Raiders' cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha has suffered a chipped bone in his left wrist. Asomugha is expected to miss two weeks with the injury.
My Fantasy Read on Asomugha: Despite the report from Schefter, the Raider’s beat writer David Wright is saying Asomugha is more likely to go in week one. Let’s face it, he only needs to knock the ball down. Expect the shut-down corner to start week one. Asomugha is a not considered a top rated fantasy defensive back, although he one of the best in the leauge….

The Broncos have reportedly discussed trading Brandon Marshall with multiple undisclosed NFL teams, according to ProFootballTalk.com.
My Fantasy read on Marshall: The Bronco’s wideout has become a very high fantasy risk. Given his current situation, it becomes a tremendous gamble to use a high draft pick on the suspended receiver. He has more value as a low end number two or high number three…..

Matt Schaub, QB, Houston Texans
Matt Schaub suffered an apparent ankle injury during Monday's preseason game against the Vikings.
My Fantasy read on Schaub: The Texan’s fragile quarterback looks pretty risky at the moment limping off the field Monday night. The only good sign was his grittiness staying in for the final scoring drive in the first half. He’s a safer back-up fantasy quarterback, with starter potential…..

Deion Branch, WR, Seattle Seahawks
Updating an earlier report, Deion Branch is not in jeopardy of being cut by the Seahawks, according to Mike Sando ESPN.
My Fantasy read on Branch: The Seahawks receiver has been relatively quiet this preseason, but if he survives the cuts he’ll likely slot in as the teams number three. He’ll have diminished fantasy value, but he’ll be worth watching and could have better value later in the season, if he stays healthy….

Marc Bulger, QB, St. Louis Rams
The Rams are being cautious with Marc Bulger as he recovers from his broken pinkie, according to their official team website. Bulger said, "The bone is still fractured. I think a week from today it will be even more healed. It would just be a shame to go out there and do too much today, take a snap and a re-break or whatever and get set back more. Everything we are doing is just to be safe. We are right on course."
My Fantasy read on Bulger: The Rams quarterback has basically fallen off the boards and can be taken later off the wire as a fill in, should he come back from this injury and start to play well. Bulger has been among the worst starters the past couple of seasons and should be avoided in any drafts…..

Jamal Lewis, RB, Cleveland Browns
Michael Lombardi of the National Football Post suggests that Jamal Lewis may not make the Browns.
My Fantasy read on Lewis: The Brown’s running back has not been getting a lot of love these days. There’s no reason to believe the Browns offense will be any good, so fantasy owners can safely wait until the middle rounds to pluck Lewis as your 3rd or 4th running back.

Anquan Boldin, WR, Arizona Cardinals
Anquan Boldin sat out Monday's practice while resting his strained hamstring, according to the Arizona Republic.
My Fantasy read on Boldin: The Card’s receiver is as tough as they come, so there doesn’t seem to be any worry of him missing the opener. The other good news is there’s been little heard regarding his contract demands, so he appears to be a safe fantasy pick even as a high number two……

Michael Clayton, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Michael Clayton returned to the practice field for the Bucs on Monday, according to PewterReport.com. Clayton has missed time during this preseason with a nagging hamstring injury.
My Fantasy read on Clayton: The Buc’s receiver has basically been non-existent since his rookie season. Marred by injuries and inconsistency his career has fallen to a flat line and without a top tier quarterback in camp, it’s not likely to be revived…..

Antonio Bryant, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
PewterReport.com is reporting that Tampa Bay wide receiver Antonio Bryant returned to practice on Monday. Bryant has missed much of the preseason after knee scope surgery.
My Fantasy read on Bryant: Bryant is likely being highly overvalued in many fantasy drafts. The Bucs downgraded their quarterback position with the release of Garcia and staying with McCown and Leftwich in camp. Bryant will be the go to in Tampa, but he’s not going to replicate his 2008 numbers, he’s a safer high-end number three or later…..

Matt Leinart, QB, Arizona Cardinals
Matt Leinart was limited during Monday's practice due to soreness in his left shoulder, according to the Arizona Republic.
My Fantasy read on Leinart: Matt has little fantasy value heading into the 2009 season, other than a handcuff for starter Kurt Warner. With Warner pushing 40, Leinart is one of the more favorable fantasy insurance policies…..

Brett Favre, QB, Minnesota Vikings
Brett Favre told the media on Monday that he believes he may be playing with a cracked rib, according to ESPN.com. Favre said he still plans to play the entire first half on Monday and that he won't wear any kind of protective equipment because "the damage is done."
My Fantasy read on Favre: Cracked rib or not Favre looked solid Monday night against the Texans. There were some subtle signs of rust, but clearly the old man can still chuck the pigskin. He’s not a fantasy starter, but as long as his health holds he’ll be a solid QB2…..

Laurent Robinson, WR, St. Louis Rams
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that Rams' wide receiver Laurent Robinson has solidified his position as the team's number two receiver with his play during the preseason. It looks as if he will start opposite Donnie Avery in Week 1 for St. Louis.
My Fantasy read on Robinson: The Rams newest addition to their 2009 aerial team could be a nice sleeper for 2009. Robinson has looked great and having not seen much action in Atlanta remains a relative unknown. Fantasy owners should be able to target him in the later rounds as a third or fourth receiver…..

Tom Brady, QB, New England Patriots
Tom Brady was on the field for the start of Patriots' practice on Monday, according to the Boston Globe. Brady was doing mostly hand-offs and was not seen throwing the ball.
My Fantasy read on Brady: The team is not going to push Brady too quickly. It sounds like he’s going to be fine and ready to protect his top fantasy quarterback ranking. He’s no more a risk than any other starter, but he has a tremendous upside that would seemingly be worth the gamble, draft accordingly…..

Tom Brandstater, QB, Denver Broncos
The Associated Press is reporting that Broncos' rookie quarterback Tom Brandstater may start the team's final preseason game. With starter Kyle Orton getting injured during Sunday night's game and backup Chris Simms expected to miss a few more weeks with an ankle injury, Brandstater is next in line for snaps.
My Fantasy read on Brandstater: If Orton’s finger becomes problematic, don’t expect McDaniels to turn Brandstater into the next Cassel. Orton is the only Bronco quarterback with any value and even his is limited…..

A.J. Feeley, QB, Philadelphia Eagles
NFL.com is reporting that the New England Patriots may be interested in Eagles' quarterback A.J. Feeley. The Patriots released backup quarterback Kevin O'Connell on Sunday, and Feeley is rumored to be on the trading block after the Eagles signed Michael Vick.
My Fantasy read on Feeley: With Vick still in limbo, it seems a little premature for the Eagles to make any immediate moves. While this talk circulates through the rumor mills, Feeley’s fantasy stock will plummet making him a risky play even as McNabb’s back-up…..

Donovan McNabb, QB, Philadelphia Eagles
ProFootballTalk.com is reporting that Eagles' quarterback Donovan McNabb referred to Michael Vick's role with the team as a gimmick. When asked if he would be more comfortable with Vick playing consecutive snaps or an entire series, McNabb responded: "Before you can come up with gimmicks, before you can come up with something else, you got to get your base offense going."
My Fantasy read on McNabb: With his new three-headed attack McNabb looks to be on the cusp of another solid fantasy season. He’s going to be one of the better second tier quarterbacks this season. Despite the disruption or influence of Vick, McNabb will should flourish in 2009….

Terrell Owens, WR, Buffalo Bills
NBCSports.com is reporting that Bills' wideout Terrell Owens returned to practice on Monday. Owens has been out for three weeks with a toe injury.
My Fantasy read on Owens: The Bills will likely take the safe road with T.O. and ensure he will be ready for the opener. His return to practice is a great sign and fantasy owners can expect big things in 2009 from Owens……

Michael Crabtree, WR, San Francisco 49ers
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, 49ers' GM Scot McCloughan is confident that the team will get first-round pick Michael Crabtree signed before the season begins. "It'll get done," McCloughan told the paper. "What's three or four months on a five- or six-year contract?"
My Fantasy read on Crabtree: The Niner’s unsigned rookie remains a holdout and has lost tremendous fantasy value along the way. He’s likely to be drafted by someone in your league, but if you’re that guy, make sure it’s your last pick…..

There's a possibility that Antonio Pittman might not make the Rams team this season, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

The hamstring injury Michael Clayton suffered on Wednesday was apparently "just a tweak," according to The St. Petersburg Times.

Antonio Bryant was back on the field Wednesday afternoon after sitting out since Monday with a knee injury, according to the St. Petersburg Times.

Harry Douglas, WR, Atlanta Falcons
Harry Douglas suffered an apparent leg injury at practice on Wednesday, according to Pro Football Talk.

Roddy White, WR, Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons are reportedly "disappointed" in the way contract negotiations with Roddy White have been going, and the situation could "linger," according to Adam Schefter.

Chris Chambers, WR, San Diego Chargers
Chris Chambers has performed well in camp over the last two days, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Earnest Graham, RB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Reggie Bush, RB, New Orleans Saints
Updating an earlier story, Reggie Bush (knee) was walking with a limp after practice though he said he was alright, according to the Associated Press. "I iced it just as a precaution, so when I ice it, that means I'm just maintaining," Bush said. "I've got to stay on top of it and treat it as if it was the first day I injured it."

L.J. Smith, TE, Baltimore Ravens
According to the Baltimore Sun, tight end L.J. Smith returned to the practice field on Wednesday.

Braylon Edwards, WR, Cleveland Browns
According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, finicky receiver Braylon Edwards practiced for the first time in training camp on Wednesday morning.

Jonathan Stewart, RB, Carolina Panthers
According to the Rock Hill Herald, Panthers' running back Jonathan Stewart is still experiencing pain in his Achilles.

My Fantasy Read…

The only thing worth mentioning concerning the Rams tight end Joe Klopenstein, his fall from grace (started 10 games in 2008) will re-open the door for tight end Randy McMichael (could resurface as a relevant fantasy play in 2009)….with Antonio Pittman not impressing in camp, expect this year in St. Louis to be the Steven Jackson show. The Rams featured back has certainly shown in the past the ability to carry the offense, but this fantasy risk will undoubtedly be his health….the news out of Foxboro with Brady practicing without a brace has to be very reassuring for those owners set on taking a chance…..Chris Brown may be impressing in camp, but he’s no threat to steal carries from Slaton and will have very little fantasy value when the season starts….seeing Brian Westbrook back on the practice field is always a bonus and for fantasy owners it will be key. Westbrook usually a high fantasy draft selection is now approaching the tender age of 30 and with his recent history of injuries he will be considered a riskier pick for owners….with Harry Douglas done, the Falcons receiving corp is not as deep and this could put some pressure on the brass to get Roddy White back in camp, definitely good news for fantasy owners….Tarvaris Jackson has returned to the field, but you have to figure he is now clearly now behind Rosenfels. It’s going to take a strong performance by Jackson and likely a few setbacks from Sage in order to see a change under center….Marshall’s soreness might be a little to early to be any concern, but you also have to wonder about its’ authenticity when you consider the receiver is not happy….finally fantasy owners might want to start monitoring the situation in Louisiana with Bush and his sore knee. It doesn’t look like much now, but if this becomes a chronic ailment, if could have huge ramifications on his availability and effectiveness throughout the season.

LB DEMECO RYANS FANTASY STOCK ON THE RISE
My Fantasy Read: With training camp open it looks like the new aggressive Texans defense will afford Ryans more pass rushing opportunities. Usually a solid tackling machine for defense Ryans will be much more desired in fantasy if he can add a few sacks to his resume.

LB BRIAN ORAKPO FANTASY STOCK ON THE RISE
My Fantasy Read: The Redskin’s rookie linebacker has been looking like a solid during camp applying plenty of pressure off the edge. Orakpo is expected to contribute right away and could make a huge impact. Likely to be a rising star in the league and a playmaker on the outside he could easily become an early grab in some fantasy drafts.

LB CLAY MATTHEWS FANTASY STOCK IS RISING FAST
My Fantasy Read: Only a few days into camp and the rookie linebacker has been named a starter. Matthews, a high draft selection was expected to compete for time, but he’ll not only play, he will start. Matthew will play outside linebacker and should be a solid against the run and may be utilized as a pass rusher adding to his fantasy value. With more time on the field for the former SC Trojan owners can only expect big things from Clay.

My Take...

RB MARSHAWN LYNCH LOSES SUSPENSION APPEAL
My Fantasy Read: With Marshawn Lynch losing his appeal he will have to miss three games to start the 2009 season. This is undoubtedly going to hurt his stock value in many fantasy leagues. With Lynch down, back-up Fred Jackson will have ample opportunity to earn more playing time when Lynch does return. Also note-worthy, with Lynch sitting for three, he could go much later in drafts and become a considerably undervalued pick.

WR ANTONIO BRYANT SUFFERS KNEE INJURY
My Fantasy Read: According to the St.Petersburg Bryant missed practice on Monday due a knee injury. It’s too early to speculate if this is going to be a chronic problem, but with so many questions surrounding the quarterback position Bryant is not going to warrant the same kind of value he held in the second half of last season.

RB REGGIE BUSH MISSES PRACTICE ON MONDAY
My Fantasy Read: The Saints dynamic playmaker missed practiced due to swelling in his surgically repaired knee. Head Coach Sean Payton held Bush out of practice to prevent any more time being missed. While it is not being reported as anything serious, it is something to monitor for fantasy owners.

WR RODDY WHITE CONTINUES TO HOLD OUT FROM CAMP
My Fantasy Read: The Falcon’s leading receiver the last two seasons, White had a break out campaign in 2008. He’s without a doubt one of the leagues best pass catchers and wants to get paid. With him holding out (and some are speculating this could be a lengthy stay), he’s going to be a risky early pick in drafts scheduled in the short coming weeks. For those drafting later, they’ll have the advantage of seeing how this plays out.
